The 177 Nations of Tasmania podcast has been on a bit of a hiatus for the past few months, with no new episodes for a while, so I thought it was time for a bit of a news update and let people know what's been going on.
The first and less interesting reason for the hiatus is simply that it's getting harder and harder to find people to come onto the podcast. This is because after 109 episodes, I'm getting into some of the far less common nationalities. But then it's one thing to find people, which can be hard enough in itself, then I have to persuade people to come and talk with me on the podcast. Understandably, some people are self-conscious or worried about their English or just shy. However, I'm hoping that a couple of interviews that have been in the pipeline for a while will be happening soon.
The second and more interesting, dare I say exciting, reason for the break is that I have been focussing on applying for several grants to turn the podcast into a book of human stories reflecting the diverse backgrounds and cultures of Tasmania's migrant population, and something that could serve as an educational resource at schools in Tasmania. That's the goal or next year, and we should hear this month whether we've been successful in getting funding. If not, well, I'll just have to try and find another way !
While things have been a bit quiet in terms of getting new interviews, I've tried to focus a bit on promoting the podcast a bit more, and have been creating short clips from existing episode as little hooks to arouse interest. I've been posting these on social media, so you haven't done to already, please join the 177 Nations of Tasmania Facebook page for regular content and updates. It would be great if people could share it with their networks too. It would be great to get more interest in the podcast and share some of these stories more widely.
Having a book would be fantastic thats a great idea as well!
Good luck with the funding for the book Mark, I think it's a great idea and would be an excellent educational resource.
